Keewatin Curling Club is proud to be the home curling club of Team Warkentin (Mens) and Team Szajewski (Ladies) who represented our region at the Northern Ontario Senior Curling Provincials January 16-20, 2019, at the Port Arthur Curling Club in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Both teams curled very well and represented the club with great sportsmanship.
Team Warkentin (Tim Warkentin, Wayne Warkentin, Paul Warkentin, Brent Taylor) started off strong with 3 wins straight right out of the gate. They finished the round robin with a 4 – 3 record and played excellently to make it to the final, versus Canadian Hall of Famer, Al Hackner. Congratulations Team Warkentin on placing 2nd in the Northern Ontario provincial playdowns. We look forward to following your journey should you go for the jacket next season!
Team Szajewski (Stacey Szajewski, Hayley Smith, Lorelei Devlin, Debbie Deslauriers) made their competition work hard for the wins. Although they finished with a record of 0 – 4, this doesn’t reflect the excellent games they played, losing their first three games by only 1 point. Thank you for representing the club with sportsmanship and a high-level of curling performance.
We did not get a picture of each of the teams in time for the publication of this newsletter so we want to highlight a memorable moment that the teams were able to share. Team Warkentin and Team Szajewski were lead out during the opening ceremonies by Jack and Marilyn Warkentin, proud parents of Tim, Wayne, Paul, and Debbie. At 86 years old, Jack threw a perfect button draw to kickstart the competition.
